At One Time, I Drew Portraits of Noses

At one time, I drew portraits of noses as a come on.

A portrait was 10 bucks; a nose 50 cents.

There’s a saying that a portrait is a painting

in which the nose is too large.

But a nose, by itself, is rarely too gigantic.

More often than not, it’s just right,

like a baby.

And when my model/customer would pose the nose,

their neck would extend, thrusting the chin up,

and look a little cross-eyed too, as they presented

the thing,

urging it forward with freckles and all,

from its cheeky bassinet

like a fussing parent.
