Carnation Homeowner Lands the Gardening Equivalent of a Great White Shark

Sunday, May 6, 2012:  Just outside Carnation, Washington, a bedroom community 30 miles east of Seattle, Washington today, a man working in his yard landed what in gardening circles is said to be the equivalent of a Great White Shark.  The man, working alone, said he had intended to just cut the runners of the large blackberry vine as he had been doing for ten years.  “But there was something about the sunny afternoon, and the fact that I had worn some heavy jeans that make me just want to go for the gusto,” he said later.  Getting hold of the roots was just the beginning.  “For a while there it had me by both feet and was cutting into my forearms with it’s spiny thorns.  It was a toss-up as to who was going to get the take-down,” he said later while posing for this photo.  “My wife came out later and said, ‘Oh honey, you’re bleeding!’  But at the time I didn’t notice a thing.”  The man said that he would donate the proceeds from the sale of this trophy vine to charity.
